Chapter 7

Lance

“Would you like me to show you to your room?” I asked Raven. We had just finished our meal, and she still made no move to leave, which was rare. Usually, she visited long enough to give us the news she had, and then she left. But today, she was hanging out as if waiting for something.

“Is something about to happen?” I asked, keeping my voice low.

Leila’s head snapped up, her eyes filled with concern. Since she became a vampire, her hearing was just as good as mine. There was no keeping anything from her anymore, not that I did before, but still....

Raven stared into my eyes and smiled. “I’ll stay with Leila and the children for a while to visit, if that’s alright.”

“Yes, of course.”

Indirectly, she had answered my question. I would be called away, and she would stay here with Leila and the children.

Raven nodded, having read my thoughts.

Just then, my cell phone rang, and I quickly looked down to check the caller ID. “It’s Drake.”

“Drake, what’s wrong?” I quickly walked into the salon and closed the door so the children wouldn’t hear.

“The East Coven is under attack!” he yelled into the phone. “I just received word from Darius Blanchard. He needs us now!”

“I’m on my way,” I replied. “I’ll notify the Diamond Pack, too. I’ll meet you there.”

“And Lance?”

“Yes?”

“Bring everyone you have to spare from your coven.”

“Leila, I have to go,” I said, hanging up the phone. “The East Coven is under attack.”

“I’m coming, too—”

“No. Stay here with the children.” I pulled her to my chest. “Remember, your priority is to protect the children.” Then I crushed my lips to hers in a quick but meaningful kiss. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

“Raven?” My eyes shot up to meet hers.

“I will stay here with Leila and the children,” she quickly replied.

“Go!” Leila said, already walking with me to the door. “Be safe and come back soon.”

“I will.” I gave her another quick kiss and closed the door behind me. “Do not let anyone enter the penthouse under any circumstances!” I ordered the guards, heading toward the stairs as I dialed Kellen’s number.

“Yes, sir!” they both said in unison.

“Kellen here,” he said on the first ring.

“Leave enough men here to guard the castle but get every able-bodied man you can and meet me in the courtyard. The East Coven is under attack.”

“Will do.” The call cut off abruptly.

I dialed Ferdinand next. “Ferdinand, the East Coven is under attack. Stay here and secure the castle.”

“Yes, sir,” he replied.

“And this time, if anything happens to my family while I’m gone, I will take your head when I return. Got it?”

There was a slight pause, and then he replied. “Yes, sir.”

I dialed Xander next, the Alpha of the local wolf-shifters, The Diamond Pack.

“Lance, what’s up?”

“I need your help,” I replied, stepping into the lobby, already filled with vampires.

His voice was suddenly serious. “What do you need?”

“The East Vampire Coven is under attack,” I said, looking around the lobby. “Can you meet us there?” I walked out, headed toward the courtyard, and everyone followed.
